In the 45 minutes I stayed at this hotel I was bitten by fleas while I was in the lobby, and locked in the bathroom of my room because there was no doorhandle on the inside of the bathroom. I had to yell at a homeless guy down on the street to ask him to go into the office and tell the owners to let me out. When they finally did (apparently they didn't believe the homeless guy, because I could hear them shouting at him) they refused to give me a refund because I had already stayed in the room (!)and accused me of stealing the doorknob (not true!) and ripping the screen off of the bathroom window (true!).
I checked into the Holiday Inn across the street and had a great stay.
A hotel that makes Fawlty Towers look like a well-run establishment.

This place is no palace, but if you're looking to economize and don't mind slightly shabby, it works well. I agree with opther reviewers that the front desk should work on their social skills and the rooms near the front of the hotel are noisy, but otherwise the place was comfortable and reasonably clean.

We were in town for a graduation. We arrived at 4:00 and left for the graduation at 4:15. We returned back to the hotel around 11 and left the next morning by 10. This is the only type of stay that I would recommend this hotel for.

When we walked into the office to check-in, the smell almost knocked us off our feet. After a very quick check-in we walked over to the elevator. It made a loud sound as the door was closing and that was the last time my wife would ride the elevator. We got into our room which was stuffy, but there were windows at the front and back of the room so it aired out. There is a list of rules on the wall when you first walk in that reminded me of my school days. Don’t do this, make sure you do that. My favorite was that you have 5 minutes to report to the front office if you are not satisfied with the room. The room was worn, but seemed to be clean. We then left to go to the graduation (and took the stairs).

After returning from the graduation I noticed a cigarette burn hole on the sheet. The air conditioning was not the best and the bathroom sink was clogged. It was very noisy in the parking lot as it was prom night and there were a lot of kids around. The next morning people were out yelling across the parking lot.

For under $60, the Econo Lodge was a place to sleep and little more. If you are looking for a CHEAP hotel and won’t be in the room much, this may be the place for you. If you are looking for anything more, you might be very disappointed!

I stayed awhile ago, but I'm not sure if much has changed. You get what you pay for. Gross rooms, tacky carpet, roach style.

We stayed at the Econo Lodge Sacto at the end of November for two nights. We chose it based on price, and it is listed in a couple of guide books as the best value in Sacto. I'd go along with that.

The hotel itself is a little rundown. Rooms are on two levels, accessed from outside decks. Check in was no problem. We were assigned a room far back from the street, on the second level. As 16th is a major artery, it was a bit noisy at times, but nothing major. We certainly slept fine.

The room itself was very clean, although the bathroom is a little small. There was a problem with the bath plug, which was fixed eventually by the husband of the couple who run the place. There is a big colour TV with a large number of cable channels, and of course heating and air con. The only thing missing is a coffeemaker, although coffee is available in the lobby at breakfast.

The continental breakfast that they offer isn't much, some pastries and OK coffee. There are some great places for a heartier breakfast within walking distance.

Location was another advantage. Sacto is a very walkable city and the Econo Lodge is well situated. We had looked at hotels closer to Old Sacramento but decided they would be nosier as they are all right next to the Interstate. However, we could walk to the Old town in less than 20 minutes, and most other attractions, such as the Capitol, are even closer. The Governor's Mansion is right across the street.

In fact, when we toured the mansion, which hasn't been used since Reagan was Governor, the guide said that one of the reasons Nancy Reagan declined to stay at the house was the neighborhood, which was full of seedy motels. Well, there are still quite a few motels in the area, but they seem to have cleaned up their acts. If price is your main consideration, the Econo Lodge is a good bet.
