When going to Sacramento, I typically stay at the Hilton due to several good experiences.

The staff is always speedy and very attentive to your needs and/or wants.

The rooms have always been clean and are newly renovated. The only part of the renovation they missed is the doors. The doors to the hall
way and to the bathroom are old and thin. You can see where they took the door numbers off and if anyone is talking while walking by your room you can hear them.

Parking is easy and you can access the hotel from all sides of the building.

The swimming pool is outdoor which makes in unusable during the winter
months but during the summer it is always hopping.

I would stay at this hotel for more than a day or two, but their overall quality is great.

Jan 2, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Some friends and I went on a mini-roadtrip to Sacramento for a basketball game and booked 2 rooms at the Hilton Arden West for one night.

The hotel was not near the downtown core but was still very convenient to get to from the freeway and provided us a great location from which to get to and from Arco Arena for the game (about 6 miles away).

The hotel was pretty much a standard Hilton hotel, very clean, all basic amenities provided and better than average service. Upon check-out we noticed that they made a small mistake on the room rate which they immediately rectified and apologized for.

The lobby bar was a good place to have a drink and appetizer before heading out for the evening.

NYC

I stayed here on a Tuesday night for a business trip. Was in the city for one day and everything downtown was booked up due to some conference in town. Glad I stayed here, i was a bit worried after reading the reviews but it wasn't bad at all.

First, its an easy straight drive from SMF. You take Interstate 5 south, then cut over to garden highway, and you make a left on Harvard St and you are there. Prob took me less than 30 min, no traffic.

Second, the lobby was nice and the staff was very nice and helpful. There was notice that they were fixing the plumbing btwn 1 am and 5 am and didn't affect my stay at all.

Third, my rooom was fine. It was on the 2nd floor overlookin parking lot and freeway. I did hear the traffic, but I was so tired that I slept thru fine. Room was clean and comfy and didn't have any issues. The traffic noise wasn't as bad as I thought it would be though.

There is a restaurant/bar in the hotel. Had lunch at the restaurant. it wasn't bad.

Overall, for a one night business trip I thought the place was fine and would stay again.

Dec 6, 2007 | Trip type: Family

We've stayed at the Sacramento Hilton twice now for the Annual State Fair held in the Cal Expo facility. Both times, we took advantage of the State Fair package offered by the hotel. The State Fair rate is good (around $100 night), and includes 4 tickets to the State Fair. Check-in was quick and our State fair tickets were waiting for us at the front desk. For leisure travelers, the California State Railroad Museum and Old Town, in addition to the State Fair, gave of plenty of fun and weekend exicitement for our family of 4 (children ages 3 and 5).

Our room was spacious with a seating area and desk in addition to a king-sized bed and sofabed. The room's funishings are relatively new, and the bathroom appears to have been newly renovated. In the hotel's common areas, things are neat but don't look as "fresh". One glaring problem was the elevator service, which was slow to the point of distraction. We had to wait nearly 10 minutes for an elevator at one point. I think they were repairing the elevator, which was critical that weekend because the hotel was packed with families attending a soccer tournament. Our room was on the 9th floor, which made going up the stairs a non-option (given my two kids and two suitcases).

We ordered room service for breakfast via a menu that you fill out and hang on the door knob the night prior . It was delivered in a timely manner, and was adequate for our needs. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant, but the breakfast buffet appeared to be packed in the mornings. There's also a sports bar and a busy coffee cart attached to the lobby. Given the hotel's obscure location--an industrial park--there aren't any dining choices within walking distance. The closest thing to civilization is the Arden Mall, about 3-4 minutes away by auto.

I paid a quick visit to the pool/hot tub, but was too late to partake in the fitness room. I don't recall seeing a business center, but I'm fairly certainly there is one as i saw many conference and meeting rooms on the bottom floor. It was a busy weekend with lots of guests, but the hotel staff was not able to keep up with the piles of room service trays in the hallways and the shortage of pool towels.

In summary, the Sacramento Hilton is a average property, but perhaps on the low-end of the Hilton chain. There's definitely a need for the hotel to spruce up the facilities, and bulk up on staff to keep the property neat. Next time we're here, we'll probably check out the Doubletree Hotel that's down the road.

Recently stayed at the hotel for a week. I checked in on Sunday night and was assigned a room on the 10th floor. The check in staff was friendly and I was quickly on my way to the room. The room was exactly like the ones in the photos. My room was facing the freeway and the noise was noticible. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. I had a difficult time sleeping because of the freeway noise. The fact that the alarm in the next room went off before 6:00 AM didn't help either.

Being a gold HiltonHonor member, I had access to the executive lounge. The lounge was on the top floor (12th level). The lady there was very nice and attentive to everyone. She quickly cleaned up the few tables that were available, so other guests could use them. There was toast/muffin/bagel, hot oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal and milk available along with juice and coffee.

There was also an evening reception at the lounge. The choices were limited.

The next day, I asked to be switched to the other side of the building and the night auditor/manager happily found me another room on the other side of the building. He was very professional and quickly found me another room on the 11th floor. With that, the noise problem was solved. :-)

Everyone working at the hotel seemed very attentive and polite. Everyone said hello to me.

From the other hotels I saw in the area, this is probably the best in my opinion. If I have to stay in the area again, I would stay here again, except that I would make sure that the room does not face the freeway.
