Even tho this review headline shows "Long Beach" it is in Old Town Sacramento. An old refurbished river boat.

The first room we were assigned, the water from both the hot and cold faucet in the bathroom dribbled out very hot, and letting it run didnot help. We had to run the water in the bathtub to get water to brush our teeth.

The shower curtain and liner was very moldy.

There was not chair in the room, we had to sit on the bed to watch TV or read.

After complaining to manager we were moved to The Captains Quarters.. A Very large room at front of ship. However it did not have working AC and the temp in Sacramento was over 100 degrees.
(they had added large fans, which helped a little, but still very warm for sleeping.

We were then moved to yet another room... Which would have been fine if we had been put there in the first place.

I think it would be a good idea for managers to spend some time in each room.

My advice is be sure to LOOK at each room before accepting
for the night lodging.

We stayed here one night on Sept 8th for $113/night. It was a room on the '4th' floor with the 3rdfloor being the lobby level.

Yes, the room was small but very quaint. The bed was nice and the bathroom cute with the unique toilet and pedestal sink. Yes, the floor slanted but this is a ship and there is a sign up at the entrance to the lobby that it does have uneven floors, low doorways etc.

The front desk staff was very friendly but overall not very helpful. We arrived at 10pm at night due to a 6 hour delayed arrival on Amtrak. The front desk was unfamiliar with the area and could not give any recommendations for places to have food delivered from etc.

Due to their small size etc, they do not have a soda machine etc. Since we couldn't find anyone to deliver food to us, we thought at least they would have a soda machine. We ended up waiting until morning to get some food/beverages.

Old Sacramento is a cute quaint area. Just to note they dont open their doors to any of their stores until 10am at least. We went out at 8am and even the coffee shops were closed. But once they did open, we found some great shops and yummy food.

As we were checking out, they were installing new flat screen TVs in the rooms. Should be nice. They also have free wireless internet. Just ask for the password to get on.

Overall, I would probably stay here again. I know what to expect now and if arriving later in the evening, expect everything to be shut down. If you want more convenience etc, Embassy Suites is right at the edge of Old Sacramento. It is more expensive but I am sure they have a lot more amenities to offer plus their free breakfast.

We stayed 1 night as part of a trip around california it was perfect. This authentic paddle steamer is moored next to the historical park in sacramento. The rooms were small but beautiful and made you feel transported to the 1930's .The restaurant on the boat provided the best meal we had during our whole USA trip, the staff were really helpful it was a wonderful experience.

We were really looking forward to staying on this old steamboat and had planned two nights. Access from the street is terrible for older folks like us. Valet parking ($18/day) is a must as there is no parking close by. From the Valet, we had to walk about 50 ft across two sets of RR tracks and some very rough wood used as a walkway just to get to the dock. Room was OK but it faced the dock and "locals" were able to hang out just 20 ft from our doorway . It was very noisy all night. Plumbing in the room was poor with reversed or loose handles, scalding hot water and fixtures that were not attached. Had to go to the lobby to use WiFi. Fender of our rental car was damaged in the Valet area but hotel management did nothing and ignored my request for an incident report. We enjoyed "Old Sacramento" adjacent to the docks but we were not happy with our stay on the Delta King - we left after one night.

There were average things and interesting things about this stay. Delta King is a paddleboat, like what Mark Twain used to ride on. The day I arrived there was a large stage for a wedding being set up. My room was very small, not even a dresser. And the knob on the air conditioner was busted. But the antique flavor of the place added some semblance of charm, so it wasn't horrible. Glad I'm not 6 foot!

Service was fairly good. When I wanted sugar for the free coffee served, the guy went out of his way to get some for me. A woman at the front desk forgot I was a guest, despite my distinctive SF Giants cap through the trip.

Neat little TV set, full cable, HD. Chain toilet was cute. Tiny shower for a quick clean-up. They're environmentally conscious, where I think all hotels now are giving guests a choice of washing towels and bedding daily or just what's needed to save water.

Saturday night I was woken by a fireworks display! That was cool, only lasted ten minutes, pleasantly unexpected.

The most positive point was their Housekeeping staff. I left for a few hours and when I returned, the sheets were turned and little squares of chocolate were on the pillows! Cool!

I knew of the Murder Mystery Dinner up in the lounge but did not attend. Cute woman at the reservations area at the lounge took my order for hamburger but I had to beg for a fork and napkin to go which I thought was weird. Otherwise friendly staff.

I would go again!

  • Liked — Cleanliness, fast housekeeping service.
  • Disliked — Tiny, but that's expected on a boat. Ships are not known for space.
