heat only comes on when hotel/motel has it timed for...freezing evening, heat did not come on until 930pm.

Air conditioning was on during day and flipping switch to heat or low air flow does not work, only turning switch to off works.

fan is extremely loud...bring your earplugs if you insist on staying.

furnishings are shoddy, small.

soap, shampoo, was not in bathroom on arrival.

carpet ugly, worn, and uneven.

I needed a hotel that was reasonable and close to a 2-day seminar I was attending at the Sheraton Grand. The Clarion was within 6 blocks - a very doable walk! The clerk at check-in was very nice and they gave me a welcome package with some samples inside (shampoo, gum, etc.) The room was adequate with a large king bed and plenty of pillows. The tv didn't impress me much - I had a difficult time getting the remote to work. The heater was noisy and the stall shower was small. I had a wonderful meal at their restaurant, and the overall look of their facility is very nice. It certainly was adequate for what I needed.

  • Liked — Reasonable room rates.
  • Disliked — Small shower.

Absolutely not worth the price. The lobby is pleasant and gives you hope, but once inside the rooms the "ambience" changes drastically. Room is small and cramped. Very musty odor. Carpet was not vaccuumed well and fabric bench seat badly stained. Needs paint and updating. Had to slam door to get it to shut. Full-size beds only for two-bed rooms and stall showers only -- had to close bathroom door to even get to the shower door and floor had chips from cracked tile grout. Even though it was a no smoking room, table outside the room had an ashtray, as did all adjacent outdoor tables so I absolutely did not feel comfortable opening sliding glass door. One upside -- free parking. Would not stay again.

The manager was kind of a jerk when we asked if it was possible for an early check-in. Other than that, the staff was nice. I was surprised at how quiet the place was after reading other reviews on TripAdvisor. The bed was really great, so I told the front desk when I checked out. They told me that it was a new bedding package they recently added. I like the hotel's location because it's near a lot of gay clubs, coffee shops, restaurants, and mid-town sites. The hotel itself was a bit dirty, but nothing terrible. There was mold in the shower.

After reading some of the less recent reviews, I felt a little uneasy about this hotel. If I had paid full price, I would not be happy, but I got a deal, and probably got what I paid for, This hotel is in downtown Sacramento, which itself can seem a little shady at night. I thought of Nancy Reagan refusing to live at the Governor's Mansion ( just across the street from this hotel) and I thought , well it is not as bad as all that, but I kind of saw her point. ! However, I did ask for a rod to jam the sliding glass door. The public rooms were fine, but my room was not so fine - dirty upholstery, and carpet looked seedy. But beds were okay, bathroom was fine and staff friendly. Needs sprucing up, or alternatively can slide downhill. Oh and air conditioning did not work.
