My stay at this hotel was horrible, from before I got there until the night I left. I was in Sacramento to take the California Bar Exam, which is stressful enough. However, the staff at this hotel is clearly clueless as to what guest service means, except, of course for the breakfast staff and housekeeping.

Prior to arrival I spoke with numerous hotel employees to make sure everything was set. I booked at the end of January and requested a refridgerator, which is first come first served. I was repeatedly told to request an early check-in the day before arrival, which I did. Suffice it to say, the reservationist I spoke to when making the request spoke to me as if I was hearing the English language for the first time (by the way, English is my first and only language!).

When I did arrive (almost 1 hour after the early check-in I requested), I was told no rooms and no refridgerators were available. I was told about 'first reserved' blah blah blah, then I reminded him I booked back in January, while most other bar takes did not even book until mid-February at the earliest. Then I went to pay with a check, at which time he told me the hotel does not take checks. I thought this was strange as when I called a month earlier and wanted to prepay, they couldn't take my credit card over the phone, but I could mail them in a check...perplexing!

So, I give the clerk my card and he said he would put 1 night only on it, then I could get cash and pay the rest. I go outside and immediately as I walk through the door he announces (loudly): Your credit card was declined.
I looked up and 7 people were standing in line to check-in staring at me ... it was mortifying. I even have 2 friends who witnessed it and were shocked.

But the best is yet to come!! On my last night there, after spending $450, the night auditor went psychotic on me!!! I had a couple of friends over celebrating the bar and apparently there was a noise complaint. Instead of calling the room and asking us to keep it down, he shows up at the door and begins berating me up oneside and down the other with profanity. I asked him his name and he flipped me off as I was walking away. When I went to the front desk to demand his name, he called me 'trash', picked up his book (after calling the police!!!) and started reading.

Just now when I checked my credit card, I had been charged an extra $75 (for what I don't know) and when I called to speak with someone they said, "yeah, the night auditor doesn't have the best demeanor." So, clealry the hotel knows the night auditor is crazy and yet chooses to subject their guests to his outrageous behavior anyway.

Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else!!! For your sanity's sake!!!

I chose this hotel for a conference because it wasn't anywhere near $289 per night! For $79 per night it was within easy walking distance to the Hyatt Regency (although I wouldn't walk the area alone at night).

The room, including the bathroom, was very clean and modern and superior for this price. The king bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on.

However, by 9:00 pm my next door neighbor was "sawing logs", and I was glad I was used to sleeping with the tv on. I could tell the person above me went to bed around 3:00 am, and the person next door's alarm went off at 5:30 and he left at 6:00 am. Yes, the walls are that thin! Either leave the tv on or use earplugs.

So if price is your thing, stay here. If you can't sleep with a lot of noise, pay a little more somewhere else.

We needed a less expensive alternative to the Hyatt Regency at $150/night so we booked this property for $99/night. Other posters have mentioned $79 but that was rate was not available for our dates.

Tip #1: Ask for a poolside room which is on the interior of the building. Otherwise, you will hear traffic noise from the streets since all 4 sides of the building is adjacent to the street. Although we didn't get street noise, we had Thumper in the room above us but fortunately, we were both on the same schedule. They thumped around as we were getting ready but it's because we were early risers. If we wanted to sleep in, we wouldn't have been able to.

Tip#2: This hotel offers free wireless connection but they have a lock on it which is abnormal. Most places that have locks on the internet usually charge because it asked for a username and password. Well, the guest information book in the room made no reference about free internet. Although we booked online, we couldn't remember because this was one of 6 hotels we were staying at on our CA roadtrip. So by the time we got to this hotel, we couldn't remember their amenities. Anyways, there was mention of free local calls. So we used the phone book and used dial-up into the internet service. Anyhow, when we checked out, we were CHARGED for long distance phone calls! The front desk had very poor customer service because they claimed that we dialed long distance when we showed them the phone book that listed all of the prefixes that were "local calls" from their hotel!!!! I brought up the fact that their in room guest information book had no reference about the amenity. Their response was that there should have been a complete book in the room.

Internet access is Username: bwsutter and Password: sutter100.

Here's the kicker...."It has happened to other guests". I was furious that if it had happened to other guests, why have they not corrected it? They just shrugged and were nonchalant about it. Talking to them was like talking to a brick wall. So if you book this property, remember these 2 tips. Don't let it happen to you!!!

A bit run down. Renovations were going on - no noticeable contruction noise. Comfy beds, clean room, front desk was helpful but not overly friendly. Had a nicely located room with slider to pool. Walls a little thin: could hear voices, TV, and coughing. Super handy to state capitol grounds, Old Town Sacramento and bike path. No road noise. A little tricky getting luggage from parking garage into lobby and up elevator. Unsecured parking garage made us a little nervous, but no problems. This is the second time we've stayed here in as many years.

My girlfriend and I needed a place to stay near downtown - we wanted to be able to walk from the hotel. This place was just about a mile to Harlows (the club we were going to) and less than a mile to much of downtown.
The room (204) was big for an average room. The king bed was comfortable with 4 pillows. The TV was modern with aux. video inputs on the front, and the air conditioning worked fine. Bathroom was split with shower/toilet separate from the sink with a huge counter. Everything was above average, which was a nice surprise, and the rate was only 79+tax (through orbitz, we stayed a Saturday night).
The only interaction with the staff we had was upon checkin/checkout, and both times they were friendly.
Only complaint is sound proofing isn't that great, but with the room facing inwards toward the pool, the only noises were from other guests, and the sound of the plumbing. But if you wear earplugs when you sleep this isn't an issue - and it's no worse than most hotels of this caliber.
Definitely would stay again.
