We stayed at the Inn at Parkside to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday and we had such a wonderful time. Not only were both buildings beautiful on the outside, they were so tastefully decorated on the inside...put us in a relaxing mood instantly. We were greated graciously and were escorted to our room after getting a nice tour around the beautiful property. It is nestled among a cozy neighborhood full of trees that shower the property with beautiful purple flowers. The room was wonderful, the bed was super comfortable and the shower was a dream! The wine and cheese hour was a really nice touch before our dinner on the town. Breakfast the following morning was wonderful; a fresh-out-of-the-oven homemade muffin preceded fresh fruit and a homemade quiche. Our massages were fantastic...they really knew what they were doing and really listened to our requests/needs. I would definitely recommend The Inn at Parkside to anyone and my husband and I can't wait to go back. What a treat!!

This was our second visit to the inn and I can guarantee it will be our last. We are locals and came here for the experience of relaxing for a night in their jacuzzi. We had a spa tub in our room last time and didn't really need to make use of the jacuzzi, but this time there were no rooms available with spa tubs. Since we knew they had the outdoor jacuzzi, we booked a standard room and looked forward to a night soaking under the stars.

It was a last minute booking so we called the morning of to book the room. There was no mention of the jacuzzi being down. Upon check in, there was still no mention of this seemingly important bit of information. It wasn't until we were walking out to the backyard that the inn keeper informed us the tub was too dirty for use. We were told there was a chance it would be available later in the evening.

When we made our second attempt to venture out back, we were told that the tub still wasn't ready. The inn keeper offered to clean the community spa tub for us upstairs. We reluctantly accepted her offer, but were not very comfortable in the tiny room with the noisy spa jets. We were done in about 20 minutes.

The fact that it was made out to be no big deal is what upsets me most about the situation. I don’t understand why we were not offered any form of compensation; $20 off our next stay, or complimentary champagne and strawberries would have been nice. Instead, I was left feeling like I would rather be at home in my own bed, a mere 10 minutes away, than to have paid good money to sleep in a basic room with a tiny TV and no jacuzzi. What a waste!

My husband had just been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia (a blood disease). He just finished going through chemotherapy and staying a total of 18 days in the hospital. My husband is 29 and I am 25 years old who have only been married for 10 months. To say the least, We needed to relax! My husband agreed to try out the inn and we booked the trip about three weeks in advance.

Three days before our trip my husband explained to me that he wasn't feeling well. I had to cancel our trip. DIANE answered the phone very cheery until I explained that I had to cancel our trip. She got a huge attitude and said " huh, you dont get your deposit back." I kindly explained to her the cancellation policy that was located on my confirmation e-mail. I was entitled to my deposit besides a $25 cancellation fee. Diane agreed to only charging me $25 as the cancellation policy stated. She huffed and puffed until she just hung up the phone without saying goodbye.

I looked up at my husband and remembered that she did not agree to actually refunding my deposit. I called her back. I explained to her that I needed to clarify that she would refund the deposit and I quote" WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I ALREADY DID IT. IT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE." DIANE hung up the phone again without saying goodbye.

I never made it into the doors of the inn. Diane's horrible customer service has totally changed my mind about this place. My husband later told me that I could go to the spa by myself. I would have called this inn to re-schedule, but Diane's attitude made me book at the skinsations spa instead. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I cannot imagine that they call themselves luxury. I did not deserve this type of treatment.

Management response from DNicole, Co-Owner
(Management representative)

I am the co-owner along with Diane mentioned in the review. We are sorry if the writer felt that there was anything resembling an "attitude". There are two cancellation policies (one for weekdays/one for weekends) and a quick glance at the calendar was made in error thinking the date in question was a weekend. There was no disagreement about the validity of the credit.

The writer refers to "Horrible Customer Service". How long have you waited and hoped to receive a credit for something? Diane dropped everything else and issued the credit on the spot. Most would consider that to be "Excellent Customer Service".

Diane is a consummate professional with over 30+ years of customer service background and has or would not hang-up on someone.....twice. We are sorry if the caller felt that the conversation was "curt" or "short" as nothing was ever intended. If you look at reviews here or other sites, you will see numerous references to the personalized and outstanding service provided by Diane. Once again, we are sorry if the writer feels we were anything less than professional during the immediate accomodation of their request and hope they give us a second look in the future.

Thanks.

We live in Sacramento and stayed here for our anniversary. The inn is beautiful, as was the room. Our room was ready when we arrived, and we were escorted from the main building to the new residence. Both buildings are nicely decorated and you can tell the owner has a great attention to detail.
The thing that sticks out in my mind the most is the service. We needed and address to a restuarant and the manager was very helpful. The next morning we needed change, and the owner/manager literally ran from one building to the other to get change. You could tell that she really cared about the guest's experience. She was cheerful, accomodating, and helpful in every way. Kindness and attentiveness goes a long way to making an experience memorable!
We stayed in Refresh. We enjoyed the amazing tub, the huge tv, and the comfortable bed. As for noise, yes, it is near a freeway, but the noise is not that bad. As for the sound of children in the park...delighful in my opinion! Breakfast was delivered right on time and was light and tasty. We enjoyed massages that were both professional and delightful. Parking wasn't really a problem for us (maybe we are just used to downtown!) We were able to use one of the alley spots for most of the time, and parked right our front the other times.
Bottom line, the room felt luxurious and like a true escape. Highly reccomended, we'll be back for sure.

I am pleased to share my little downtown secret- 'The Inn at Parkside'. Now let me confess, I love classic architecture!! This refurbished 1930's art-deco mansion turned B&B/dayspa piqued my interest at first sight. Now mind you, the location is convenient, but not ideal. Parking can be a problem during noontime, but once you walk in the door the ambiance is magical. The soft music, the candles, the accomodating staff; it all came together to make my very first massage memorable. And when it came time for an in-town romantic retreat we stayed on the 3rd floor of their new building next door, 'Parkside House'- also memorable. I now send all of my best clients to the Inn at Parkside because I know they will be well taken care of, and the kudos will come back to me. This is one secret I'm glad to share!
