Although the rooms are small, the jacuzzi tub makes up for what it lacks in size. Breakfast was nothing to write home about. You would think that they would do something more than French toast.

My wife and I stayed at the Amber House on our honeymoon and we had an excellent time!!! We are planning on going there again and would gladly dispute with anyone that thinks that this place is shabby. And yes the cookies were a little hard but good after you soak them in milk.
For Valentine's Day, I wanted to surprise my boyfriend with a lavish and romantic weekend getaway that was nothing like the impersonal hotel vacations we had taken before. Amber House stood out as a more personnable and less commercial option than all the other bed and breakfast inns, and we were not disappointed by the choice. The staff was friendly, gracious, knowledgeable, and efficient. Our innkeeper advised us on everything from a good place to dine to the nearest jazz bar in town. They were also unfailingly attentive and helpful when my boyfriend lost his wallet, providing us with phone numbers and information. The gourmet breakfast was superb, and the two-person jacuzzi a virtual paradise (we stayed in the lovely Beethoven room).
Our only worry was the distance from the inn to downtown; in the end the taxi fare was something like $5, definitely worth it for the beautiful and quiet location. I would highly recommend staying at Amber House (we can't wait to return ourselves!). The caliber of attention and service its staff provides is well worth the money.
My husband and I stayed at the Amber House for our anniversary and were not too impressed. The room was very very small and right next to the front door. The decor and furniture seemed very cheap and not well taken care of. The jacuzzi tub had pubic hairs all over it and the hostess even removed some with her hand. The "fresh baked" cookies before bed were not fresh at all, but store bought and hard as a rock.
The service was very good, but did not make up for the other issues.
The breakfast in the morning was Ok, but nothing special. My husband did not even eat it. I don't think we'll be staying here again, but thats ok because it is up for sale.
The Amber House is a wonderful place to stay. The staff is very friendly & helpful and the rooms are very tastefully decorated. Though located in the heart of downtown Sacramento, it's still quiet & relaxing. The perfect place for a weekend getaway.
