We (husband, 5 year old, and me) stayed at this hotel for two nights while we were visiting Sacramento for the State Fair. The hotel is newer and in a decent location. The rooms are not huge by any means, but definitely have everything you could possibly need while you are staying. The kitchen has a nice sized fridge/micto/stove/dishwasher. It also has many handy utensils such as knives and a wine bottle opener- always a plus for us as I hate it when I bring wine and forget the opener :) There was also a closet that was handy in storing stuff as well as a laundry hamper which is something I always have wished more hotels would provide. We stayed in a studio suite which had one bed that was fairly small, but comfortable. There was a fold out couch bed which was great for our 5 year old. The room was very, very clean!

The pool area was nice- small but nice. The Spa was great. The breakfast was ok- I have had much better free breakfasts in hotels- especially other Marriott chains. The first morning they ran out of almost all the food- and we even got there kind of early. The second morning was a bit better, but only one kind of cereal, and only skim milk. Not much else provided. I think they could do a better job with the breakfast for sure.

The only true negative I can say about the hotel is the service- the front desk staff is pretty rude. We asked for ice and it was like we were asking for the world. We got locked out of room the second day and when we treked back down to the front desk after a very long day- we were met with a rude front desk clerk and not even an apology.

Other than that, the location is good- across the freeway is the Cal Expo and Arden Fair area- many, many good restaurant choices: El Torito, Mimi's Cafe, Olive Garden, Chili's, Cheescake Factory, and many other large chains...inside Arden Fair mall there is other good choices: Dos Coyotes is a good choice if you like fresh mex style food.

When we travel to Sacramento again I will most likely stay at this hotel again due to all the comforts it provides.

  • Liked — The room and all the amentities it provided
  • Disliked — The breakfast and the service

Stayed one night. Two bedroom suite. New building - spotlessly clean. Excellent accommodation. Location is a bit out of town - but good range of shopping nearby. Friendly & helpful reception staff. Free WiFi (I probably should take this for granted - but some hotels still charge for this). Good laundry room.
We ate at Mimi's restaurant nearby & would definitely recommend.
There were a lot of kids running around on the lower corridors - it didn't bother us as we were on the (top) 4th floor (an earlier reviewer had recommended getting an upper floor room).
There was some kind of party on next door to us - no music but noisy conversation. We let it go until 11.15 p.m. We then called reception and it was sorted immediately. Got a great nights sleep.
I would definitely stay at this property again - and based on the experience I will factor TownePlace Suites into future travel plans.

We stayed here during Memorial Day weekend for a baseball tournament. There were 7 families who booked at this hotel. All of us agreed that it was a great place to stay, great value- $99 for a one bedroom suite, nice, new rooms with full kitchens- we needed that since we were all there with our kids and needed big fridges for gatorade, water....

BBQ & POOL- We bbq'd by the pool a couple times, 1 gas bbq. No bbq tools so I brought my tongs from home but you can use the forks from your room. There's a long bench by the bbq so you can lay out a bunch of plates, food and use it as a side table. It was great because we all got burnt out on restaurant and fast food so it was nice to bbq some steaks and hot dogs with some salad and rice and have a decent meal. The pool area had 2 round tables with 4 chairs, 2 chaises and a few other chairs. The pool and hot tub were small but just right for all the kids, they loved it!

KITCHEN-One thing the kitchen did not have is a blender and I brought mine from home to make pina colada's for our poker night after one of the games. The kitchen has utensils and plates for only 4 so others had to bring their forks from their rooms when we hosted dinner in our room.

BREAKFAST-The breakfast is very simple- cereal, bagels, muffins, oatmeal, juice, fruit.... We stayed at the Courtyard last year which is across from this hotel and they have a good hot breakfast with your stay. There's also a restaurant at the Courtyard- Paninni if you want to eat there.

ROOMS-One of the families got upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite, she booked at 2 queen studio $89 but there were none left when she checked in later at 5pm so she was very happy with her huge suite! I also saw the studio rooms and they were a very good size too- the king has a sofabed, side living area, galley kitchen. Our 1 bedroom suite was large- 600 sq.ft., we had a corner room as our friends 1 bedroom suite seemed smaller. The living space was one huge room with the living room, kitchen and their kitchen was like a galley style off the door, then the living area. The bathroom was decent size but the vanity/ sink area was too small, not enough counter space. I liked how the tub area had a line that you can pull out to hang wet bathing suits. Nice curved shower curtain, nice water pressure and never a problem with hot water.

We heard the train about twice a night, not too loud, not enough for me to not want to stay here again. The staff was very friendly and we will definitely be back next year. I would have given the place 5 stars if they had a nice hot breakfast like at the Courtyard next door. My son's tournament team WON FIRST PLACE on Monday, it is their 2nd tournament championship, very close games, great baseball, great weekend! We'll head to Michigan for a World Series tourny and it was a great to have a home feel place to stay at the Towneplace Suites! Go Slammers!

  • Liked — The kitchen, big new rooms, the bbq by the pool, clean!
  • Disliked — NO dvd player, limited childrens channels, small bathroom counter, no blenders in kitchens

The first nite I checked in in the early evening. I was sitting in the room watching tv around 8:40 when the door opened. I jumped up from my chair and ran over - it was the maintenance man. I told him he couldn't come in the room (after asking who he was and why he was there) - he had come to replace a light bulb. He clearly thought he could just walk on in. He did explain that he knocked but that my tv was too loud for me to hear him (I think this would indicate that a person was in the room). I emphatically told him to go away. Then called the front desk to complain - she offered to switch my room (not sure how that would help) and said he must not have realized I was in my room.
The next morning, I let the front desk clerk know about it - he seemed slightly more concerned than the nite clerk. He said he would let the manager know. I never heard from the manager, however the chief maintenance guy left a lengthy message for me which said - truly sorry BUT - and then went on to explain that it was my fault for not hearing the knocking, not having the deadbolt latched, etc etc. Bottom line as he made clear - if they have a work order for a room - they knock 3 times, enter the room and proceed, regardless of the time of day or whether a guest is in the room. It is still unclear to me why if they knew the lightbulb needed to be replaced, it wasn't done before I checked in.
If only I had received a sincere apology and acknowledgement that a mistake was made, this would not have been a big deal - but each employee I dealt with didn't seem particularly surprised that it happened or concerned about how a woman traveling alone would feel having a stranger enter her room at nite.

Our family of 6 (husband and I and 4 young children) stayed here 2 nights, each one week apart while traveling through on Spring Break. We rented the 2-bedroom suite which was perfect for our family. Both bedrooms were comfortable with queen beds in each, and there was a sofa bed in the living room which was quite adequate for our two boys. Since we were traveling through town we didn't have a lot of time to spend but the first time through town the kids were able to get in a short swim in the pool and I was able to do a load of laundry in the hotel facilities. We were very happy with both amenities. We also were happy with the comfort and cleanliness of the room. The kitchen would have been wonderful if we had more time there.

The staff was friendly and we felt very welcome and were impressed our first time through. We did notice the walls were very thin and could hear loud snoring in the room next to us which was a little distracting at first but after awhile we didn't have too much trouble falling asleep. We only found it odd that there was such a lack of insulation between the rooms. Since the room was so perfect for our family size we decided to stay again one night on our way home.

Our second trip through town was a different story. We litterally only got one hour of sleep the entire night. The people in the room next to us were fighting and screaming the entire night. They fought in their room, in their doorway and in the hallway. Mostly it was a couple but there were two others in their room that got involved in the fight as well at times and the lady was constantly calling friends or family on the phone screaming and crying about what was going on. Because of the thin walls, it was impossible not to hear every word as if they were actually somewhere in our room (not to mention obscenities our children had never heard before) and loud slamming of items on furniture.

We called the front desk and asked for help and the lady who answered kindly called our neighbors and asked them to keep the noise level down. This worked for about a couple of minutes while one of the guests told the others what the call was about. Immediately after that the fighting started again. We called the front desk again and was told they would send security to the room. That didn't help either.

It was obvious we were distressed because we were exhausted and told the staff we had a long drive ahead of us the next day and continued to ask for help. Thankfully our children were able to fall asleep from exhaustion around 3 a.m. We know there was another suite we could have been offered because we were given an option upon check-in of which one we might want. We would have gladly moved at 4 a.m. just to get a few hours of sleep, when it was obvious security wasn't even able to quiet them down. But we were not given the option. So, we finally slept about an hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. (decided just to skip breakfast) while the guests in the other room were gone. We knew right away when they were returning at 10 because they slammed the door while yelling at each other.

When we checked out we talked to the manager about our night. He said he was sorry and that the other guests would be staying several more nights so he would "talk to them." Nothing more. What a disappointment.

In retrospect I am wondering why we didn't haul all of ourselves out to the front desk and demand another room. But, then I remember how exhausted we were. We had just driven 12 hours or so and kept thinking that at any moment the screaming would stop and we could finally fall asleep.

Needless to say we won't be staying here again, which is a big disappointment being that the location of the hotel and size of the suite is perfect for us. Suffice to say if it wasn't for the lack of response to our needs we would say everything about this hotel was great.
