“Great Place to Stay and Good Value!”

Courtyard by Marriott Sacramento Cal Expo

Jul 21, 2008

My family stayed in the this hotel for almost a week, and thought it was WONDERFUL and look forward to coming back to stay again! We paid between $109-$135 night and thought it was a great deal because most the nights included breakfast and the details in the room made it feel like a high end hotel. Rooms included comfy beds/pillows, nice furniture, free wi-fi, good size refigerators and clean, modern bathrooms. While the hallways and lobby would lead you to believe it was just your average hotel, the amenities and friendliness of staff was outstanding and equal to service you receive at high end ($$$) hotels. They also offered complimentary magazines in the lobby, all parking was close to rooms and hotel is located near shopping, restaraunts, movies and Cal Expo. The only somewhat negative comment I would make is that pool is right next to parking lot, but you didn't really notice that during the day because parking lots so quite ... but during evening hours made sure my girls swam only with adults present. Other then that highly, highly recommended and will definately stay here again!

“Good overall”

We've stayed at this Courtyard Marriott twice before and have had a wonderful experience. A very good value for the money. This weekend, we booked it for our 3rd stay. I called the hotel directly to book the reservations - the 916.929.7900 number listed on their website. I successfully make a reservation. The night before we were suppose to go - I call the hotel to reconfirm our reservation. The hotel could not find it. So they went ahead and made another reservation. When we arrived the hotel could not find any of our reservations. Luckily they were not fully booked and acccomadated us. However, if the hotel had been busy - we would've been without a room upon arrival. This annoyed us a little.

On top of the mixup - the front desk lady was not friendly during the process. I asked for a specific room (#174) when we were checking in - and she thought I was asking whether the hotel had that room number. She said yes then proceeded to assign us to room 158. When I asked her again that I wanted room room 174 - she looked annoyed. This is unacceptable attitude for someone that works at the front desk of a hotel.

I also called the front desk couple times during our stay - and this same lady sounds really rude and unfriendly on the phone.

This aside ... our stay was good as usual. The rooms are new and clean. I ask for the side that is away from the train tracks - because it is quieter. Otherwise you hear trains all night long.

The breakfast buffett downstairs is pretty good. There is free wi fi in the room - and the speed is good. Parking is plenty and free.

We will most likely stay here again on future Sacramento visits. Just hope that the same lady at the front desk isn't there.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 days. I had asked for a quiet room and was very pleased where we were placed. Be sure to ask for a room away from the elevators, the highway, and the train. The room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The TV was lacking in channel choices. The coffee available in our room was horrible. We couldn't even drink it. The only good coffee in the hotel was in the dining room in the lobby. The room rate was very reasonable, i.e. $118.00 on Wednesday, and $76.00 per night thereafter. The air conditioner was fabulous -- very quiet and no rattling. The weather was very hot while we were there and the a/c worked great.

The downside is that I was bitten by a spider while I was sleeping. When I showed the bite to the hotel clerk, she sprayed it with antispectic spray, placed a band-aid on the bite, and offered me a free breakfast.

She had the maids strip the bed and look for more spiders.

All in all -- it was a pleasant experience.

“New hotel close to freeway”

The hotel is located in a big complex with altogether three Marriott hotels close to a freeway exit, the Sacramento fair, a mall and many good restaurants. While we were quite dissatisfied with the Fairfield in this complex when we visited a few months ago, this Courtyard is a good choice. Even if you are unfortunate and get a room directly facing the freeway (as we did) the intrusive loud pinging noise of the elevator will most likely interupt your sleep more often than the sound of cars sailing by in front of your window. Light sleepers should ask for a room away from the trains that are passing through near one side of the hotel. That said there is not much negative to report. Rooms are in the usual Courtyard style but since the hotel is new they are in perfect condition. Nice features are a pullout table and a real closet (not just hangers). The bed was comfortable which is not always the case in Marriott hotels. The A/C unit worked fine even on an unusually hot day. We had a slight problem with the extremely small bathroom: No way that two people could ever be in there at the same time. Less enticing than the guestrooms are the common areas. Lobby and restaurant are huge but have the charm of a departure lounge at the airport.

“Great price for a Marriott-brand, Very comfortable room”

I stayed here for one night due to its proximity to California State University SAC (career fair). Check-in was efficient and easy. The bed was extremely comfortable and one of the most sleek bathrooms I've encountered for a bargain basement price of $99 a night. And that figure was directly off their hotel website, no discount sites! I loved the free wireless access.

The frustrating parts: their 'market' just off of the front desk is very sparse; they gave the impression that snacks and sandwiches were available, but I only saw soft drinks, candy and tylenol, that's about it. Also, there was a very long line of people trying to check in and only one person manning the front desk, so I wouldn't have wanted to wait to pay for items even if they had something I wanted. The room guide said there were snack machines on every floor, but this only means soft drinks and ice. I had no change, and my dollar bills were too ratty for the machine to accept. All I wanted was a snack, but I didn't want to bother getting change from the front desk, I didn't want to pay a lot for an appetizer at the on-site restaurant....so....I eventually just gave up and conquered my hunger till the next morning. It wasn't a very big deal, just a chain of events that caused me to go from floor to floor in search of something simple, yet turning into a frustrating task.

But I will say again the rooms were spotless, the linens were soft, the furniture looked new and the color scheme was attractive. I didn't notice any train sounds the entire time I was there, but in all fairness, I travel with earplugs all the time. The best $99 a night place I've ever had the pleasure of staying in!
