“Great price for a Marriott-brand, Very comfortable room”

I stayed here for one night due to its proximity to California State University SAC (career fair). Check-in was efficient and easy. The bed was extremely comfortable and one of the most sleek bathrooms I've encountered for a bargain basement price of $99 a night. And that figure was directly off their hotel website, no discount sites! I loved the free wireless access.

The frustrating parts: their 'market' just off of the front desk is very sparse; they gave the impression that snacks and sandwiches were available, but I only saw soft drinks, candy and tylenol, that's about it. Also, there was a very long line of people trying to check in and only one person manning the front desk, so I wouldn't have wanted to wait to pay for items even if they had something I wanted. The room guide said there were snack machines on every floor, but this only means soft drinks and ice. I had no change, and my dollar bills were too ratty for the machine to accept. All I wanted was a snack, but I didn't want to bother getting change from the front desk, I didn't want to pay a lot for an appetizer at the on-site restaurant....so....I eventually just gave up and conquered my hunger till the next morning. It wasn't a very big deal, just a chain of events that caused me to go from floor to floor in search of something simple, yet turning into a frustrating task.

But I will say again the rooms were spotless, the linens were soft, the furniture looked new and the color scheme was attractive. I didn't notice any train sounds the entire time I was there, but in all fairness, I travel with earplugs all the time. The best $99 a night place I've ever had the pleasure of staying in!

This is a really great hotel in a very good location. It had everything we needed and I cannot say enough about the comfy beds. We live in Reno and needed an easy hotel to stay at for one night on the way to the airport. At first I was worried that this was too far out of the way...it was fine. Check in was smooth and the rooms are huge and have everything you need. I would definetely stay here again...Marriott truly knows how to do it! Did I say the beds are extremily comfortable!?

“Not to standard”

Courtyard by Marriott Sacramento Cal Expo

Mar 23, 2008

I have enjoyed staying at Marriott courtyards for the last couple years, they are nice, clean, quiet hotels with nice linens and friendly staff. However I am very disappointed with the Courtyard Cal Expo. This property is very close to a busy railroad track and we heard frequent, LONG, train whistles. Our room had no refrigerator, which is unusual. The room was smaller than average for a Courtyard Marriott. As usual there was a comfortable bed, and the room was clean *spotless* but the layout was not as nice as previous Courtyards I have stayed in.

This is not a good hotel for a romantic evening like my friend and I were intending. Business travelers be aware that the early morning train whistles are a doozy. Staff is pleasant but overall this is just a bad property, pay the extra money and stay downtown or in Natomas. There are three Marriott properties at this location, and unless you have an event at Cal Expo or this hotel is your last resort for a quick booking I would not recommend it.

“Spacious and clean”

I stayed one night at the Courtyard Cal Expo, and it was all in all a very good experience. Check-in was quick and convenient, with a friendly person at the front desk. The room, 337, was very spacious, with a nice layout, good furnishings, and a pleasant, clean, upscale feel to it. There was a king bed, large work desk with a good chair and a pull-out table for extra space, as well as free internet.

The room had all the typical amenties, including iron, coffee maker, toiletries, etc. The bed was comfortable, and there was a sitting area with a couch and small table. The bathroom was very spacious, with Corian counters, curved shower rod, and good towels. It has a typical thru-wall heater/AC, but with the nice added touch of a digital wall thermostat.

For the most part, the room was quiet. However, as previous reviewers noted you will occasionally hear loud train horns. I never travel without eye mask and ear plugs, and the ear plugs were enough to block out the train noise. There was also a ventilation fan that would come on periodically in the bathroom with quite a racket as it started up (It's automatic - you have no control over it).

The only real disappointment was the "Market" in the lobby, which was advertised as having "sandwiches, salads, and other foods". What it had was water, soft drinks, cookies, chips, and other junk - nothing to actually have for a halfway decent dinner. There are a number of restaurants in the area, ranging from fast food to upscale, so I ended up going out to eat. And while the restaurants are close, they're not within walking distance, so relaxing with dinner in the room after a long drive was not an option.

Pros: Clean, spacious, attractive, convenient to Cal Expo, good value.
Cons: Noisy on occasion, can't walk to restaurants, poorly-stocked "Market".

“Great Stay at the Courtyard!”

Courtyard by Marriott Sacramento Cal Expo

Mar 2, 2008

I recently returned from a stay at the Courtyard and it was great. The room was large compared to others in Sacramento I have stayed at. The bed was comfortable and the tv was nice. One of the lights in my room didn't work but I contacted the front desk and they had someone come and change it within minutes. The location is good and close to the Arden Mall with many food places in the area. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definatley stay here again!
