After it was revealed that the owners of Leatherby's supported Prop. 8, they got a lot of bad-mouthing from on-line reviewers.
However, what they are is a family-run ice cream shop. They are priced above-average, but they certainly give more than generous portions of ice cream. Their soup and sandwiches are average - to be honest most people come here for the ice cream, even during winter. They will accommodate special requests (super-thick, flip upside down and it doesn't move milkshakes.) The employees are mostly teenagers, and I suspect they hire them as part of a job-training program. However, the employees are also (refreshingly) pleasant.
Bottom line, expensive, but delicious local ice cream, comparable to Gunther's and Vic's (which are also pretty darn good).
