Huge complex with free wine/beer/snacks every Monday through Friday and complete hot breakfast--we stayed in a 2 bedroom suite that was enormous and clean and quiet. Our building seemed fairly recently renovated. Pool was fine; hot tub was great, but not available to us the next day as they were refilling it. Friendly staff. You can easily walk to a park and to a nice bike/walking path along the river (which takes you into Downtown Sac if you stay on it for 1.5 miles or so) and also out along a sort of pier (The Dragonfly) over the river. My 5 year old son loved that. Several restaurants nearby; we did not go to any though. We had a great time.

We just returned from our stay. We reserved a 2 bd suite, #1309 in the main building. I booked it directly through the hotel website and confirmed my reservation 48 hours prior to arriving. Check-in was a breeze and the hotel staff was friendly. I was somewhat apprehensive about our reservation after reading the reviews but am happy to have had no problem. The unit featured two separate bedrooms with queen beds, a bathroom on each side with separate vanity area. The living area was large, a queen pull out sofa, two chairs and one ottoman. The convenience of the kitchen was great. It had a full size refrigerator which we took full advantage of , a 4 burner range, a dishwasher, and a microwave. The unit included dishes for 4 people, coffee mugs, wine glasses, silverware, etc. The bedding seemed new as well as all 3 air-conditioners. A hot breakfast was included in the price. It was very good. The first morning we had bacon, eggs, waffles, toast, bagels, muffins, fresh fruit, coffee, juice, cereals and even cappaccino. The next morning was similar except they substituted sausage and potatoes for the waffles and bacon. The hotel has free shuttle service which runs every 1/2 hr to the Capitol, Old Town Sac, the airport, Amtrak and several other places. This was great since parking downtown is not cheap. The room keys even have restaurant discounts on them. It is walking distance to Hungry Hunter, The Rusty Duck (which has a beautiful view of the river), Memphis BBQ (good deal & good food) Lyon's retaurant, a seafood restaurant and McDonalds. The outdoor pool (open 8am-10pm) was heated to 85 and the spa was at 102. Overall, we had a great stay and will definitely stay there again. Our total bill each night was $191.50. with AAA discount. A great weekend for our Girl Scout Outing.

  • Liked — Queen beds in Suites instead of double beds
  • Disliked — Need grab bars in showers
  • Tips/Secrets: — Map out the area prior to arrival. Breakfast starts at 5am so you can start your day early.

From the moment we checked in to the moment we left we were just in disbelief... thought we were on "Candid Camera" because of the unprofessionalism of the hotel staff. The gentleman that checked us in just couldn't get it right even though I had made my reservations 2 weeks in advance. The rooms were very depressing and very dark. The air conditioning was useless... we called the front desk for towels, they said they would be there within 10-15 minutes.... they never arrived. The bathtub was moldy. No blankets on the sofa bed. When I returned home last night there was a message on my answering machine telling me that they "couldn't accomodate us after all, as they were out of rooms". This was "after" we had stayed there for 2 nights. Think the hotel staff needs a seminar on "how to run a successful hotel" . I will never stay there again....

This place has the atmosphere of a apartment building. Nothing really bad stands out, but the rooms were definitely stale smelling. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite which had lots of space which was great for me and 4 children since my husband had interviews all day. 3 TV's, Kitchen, 2 Bathrooms. I would have given them a excellent rating if it weren't for all the cobwebs in the cathedral ceilings and if the room would have been aired out. Also this was the 2nd Hawthorn suites on our trip that had dirty linens on the hideabed. They need to be more attentive about this. But all in all I would recommend this place if you need more room than the average room would give you. Just bring some febreeze.

Our group came up during a school trip to Sacramento. The hotel was a wonderful place to stay! The rooms with kitchenettes were handy so we didn't need to eat out all our meals. A full breakfast was included with the price. The larger suites were great for group get togethers. They shuttled us to the Capitol and picked us up so we didn't need to worry about our cars. I highly recommend.
