My husband and I were supposed to stay at another hotel that had somehow misplaced our reservation. We remember passing the hotel and decided to stay because of the name. We were not expecting much but a clean room. The front desk staff appologized for the other hotel, but quickly stated they were happy to have us here. My husband was in a wheel chair and I was not strong enough to carry the bags, so the manager of the hotel offered to help us unload our luggage from our car and assist me getting it to our room. Not a service that we are used to getting. When we told him that we wanted directions to Lake Tahoe, he told me that had moved here from Lake Tahoe lastyear and he would print us maps on how to get there and what to do. The room was so lovely and large compared to the hotel that had misplaced our reservation. The free breakfast was delicious in the morning and the hotel informed us of several places for us to do that were so much fun. We went to Lake Tahoe and had so much fun, that on our way back we had to stop by and thank him for all his advice. We ended up staying with them again on our return trip home where we had learned they were recarpeting rooms to make it better for the guests. Once again the hotel manager assisted us with our luggage and made us feel like we were VIP's. We are retired and travel quite frequently, but never have we been given the service that this hotel had given us. We plan on staying here each time we drive through and hope others will experience the same.

I travel California for business weekly and I have been staying at this property the last 3 years on a regular basis. I have seen so many different hotel brands over the last three years, and this hotel lives up to it's name.

Over the last few months I have seen HUGE improvements at this hotel that it has needed for some time ranging from new staff and a new general manager that care about the customer and customer service. I have personally seen the front desk staff and Manager open the front door, assist guests with luggage to their room, improved their security, and during this last visit I noticed new carpeting in my room.

This Holiday Inn Express Hotel has the best downtown location, blocks from the convention center, with free parking, great free breakfast, and near so many restaurants.

This last visit the front desk staff (Erin and Machu) advised me of soom really good places to eat that I never knew about. And when I ran into a snag forgetting my laptop and phone charger chord, the manager (Jayson) let me borrow his laptop charger, and was able to talk to lost and found locating a phone charger chord for me. This new Manager and his staff are unbelievable and now I truely feel like it is my second home where I look forward to staying when I travel.

I would reccomend it to anyone from a business traveler, family, convention center meeting, or vacationer.

Not the best stay at a hotel. Front desk staff will not tell you anything without you specifically asking about it - ask for the Sacramento Gold card as it will save you money at some of the attractions and restaurants in town. We had problems with a lackluster manager and our room was never cleaned the last day we were there. They also will not do much to help out and you must go to the front desk if there is a problem as I was hung up on by the manager on duty when our bathroom flooded the first night we were there. He did tell me I could have only two new, dry. towels to replace the ones we used to try and sop up the water. Although family lives a block away, we will look elsewhere for our next visit. Breakfast was good, though.

I stayed there one night during a one week "whirlwind" trip through the west coast (mostly California).

Location: This hotel is located within walking distance to the Capital and nearby government buildings. Its locale is ideal for anyone doing business with the government agencies, particularly if you are driving. The hotel has off street parking and this is useful, as downtown parking can be hard to find. If you are staying over for next day business, the management is OK about you leaving your car there after checking out that morning.

There are a couple of nearby "mom and pop" grocery type stores for anything you need to stock up on. However, the hotel's location is just at the edge of where the neighborhood transitions from "very nice" to "something that could be less than safe," so be careful if navigating north on foot after dark.

That said, there are several nice resturants a couple of blocks south near 20th street. Ate fabulous chinese there at a casual sit down! Note, this area of Sacremento is full of one way streets, so navigating by car can be a challenge for the uninitiated. A Garmin or similar device makes getting around a breeze though.

About the hotel proper: The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean, but as another reviewer commented not too far from needing an update. The rooms are accessed via elevator, so there should be no issue for persons with disabililties. This is a 100% smoke free facility, so if you indulge, be prepared to go outside (no outdoor balcony, etc for a quick smoke).

The room: Quiet, very clean and spacious. The room I stayed in had good wireless connectivity. The beds were comfy. No complaints, but nothing to exhault its merits about either. It was on par with what one should expect for a 2-3 star hotel.

Breakfast: Basic "continential" fare augmented with some cooked food. The dining area was nice and a great place to "camp out" between meetings the next day, after checking out. Wireless connectivity allowed you to check e-mail, etc when doing so. Left over coffee from breakfast is available, but no cream.

Other: Had a PC and printer for printing boarding passes, etc or some light internet activity if you don't have a laptop.

All in all, a good business class hotel that is well located.
