First, I must say that I do not like Sacramento as a town. I try to spend as little time there as possible. (I'm terribly sorry if you live there and are upset by this.) I was here a year ago visiting my brother who does not live in Sacramento, but rather constantly travels due to business. This year, unfortunately, I had to spend the night.
I had a giant mound of Hilton HHonors Points readily available, I decided to use them up. I needed to stay in the city and not by the airport, so that left the Embassy Suites. When I drove up to the place (which was impossible with all the one way streets), I saw that it was directly on the freeway. About three-fourths of the rooms come with I-5 views and the constant sound, none the less. I absolutely cannot sleep in a hotel that sits over a freeway.
With that aside, the hotel is relatively new. I do not remember seeing it when I was here last in February 2005. The lobby is nice, and the staff is polite, although many of them did not know the city well. We asked them where to eat, and nobody knew where to go. The only way to park is valet, which I think you'll find rather tedious to do as it takes several minutes just to get your car retreived for you.
When I got to my room, I noticed a nice suite with what you'd expect from an Embassy Suite Hotel, such as a dining room table, sleeper sofa, chair, desk, wet bar, 2 TVs, and the beds. However, in this hotel, they give you a giant living room with a small sleeping space with the smallest and shortest beds I've ever seen.
I did not take advantage of the breakfast or late afternoon reception, although the complimentary fruit in the room was delicious. I did not try the bistro in the lobby, either. As for the pool, it is secluded indoor next to the elevators with a very pungent chlorine smell that surrounded the elevator area.
Overall, It was a nice hotel, although if you are looking for a nice place to relax, don't come here. This hotel, like many of its counterparts around the country, are designed for families, is no exception. The only difference is that the price is probably out of many middle class families' reach, generally around $170 a night.
