What a nice hotel. We arrived early and were able to check in right away, even though it was still several hours before the regular check-in time. Our concierge suite was on the eighth floor, overlooking the city. It was clean, nicely decorated comfortable. Both closets had doors, not something that mattered for our one-night stay, but nice if you are spending several nights.
The evening manager's reception was nice, with a generous bar and standard snacks. Our only complaint was they area designated for the reception is far too small to handle the number of guests who want to be seated. It was rather cold and drizzly outside, so the tables on the Riverwalk were not an option.
There were several events going on in the hotel over the weekend, but our suite was quiet. We didn't hear anything from the lobby, nor did we experience a fire alarm (although we heard there had been one the night before). The bed was a little hard, but they were generous with pillows and there was an extra blanket in the closet.
The breakfast the next morning was good, typical Embassy. Again, the main problem was there not being enough room for everyone to be seated. Also the breakfast area becomes a bistro at lunch time. This caused some confusion and hard feelings on the part of another guest who thought the pies on display were available as part of the breakfast.
We checked out at noon, but were able to leave our bags with the bellman until our train left, giving us plenty of time to roam Old Sacramento without luggage. We returned at 4 p.m., picked up our bags and took the free hotel shuttle to the train station.
All in all a great stay. I'm going to take my daughter back on the train for a birthday stay next month.
