My boyfriend and I booked a room with a King bed and a view through Orbitz.com toward the end of 2008. When we arrived in the room it was dark and appeared to be okay. Everything was fine until we pulled down the bedsheets to check the cleanliness of our bed (a habit I practice any time I'm not sleeping in my own bed). We were horrified to discover bright red blood on the bottom layer sheet toward the foot of the bed. It was not a small spot and VERY noticeable. We also discovered what appeared at first to be minute pieces of dirt, but each little tiny oval-shaped piece (of WHATEVER it was) consistently had the exact same size (reminded me of lice eggs) and shape, and didn't really seem to be dirt at all. YUCK! We lifted the pillows off the bed and found the same dirtiness, with a little hair thrown in the mix.

SO, we called the front desk and told them what we discovered. We waited about 5 - 10 minutes for someone to come upstairs with a key to the room next door (he didn't even inspect what we alleged was wrong with the first room, maybe they already knew!). The attendant left and we moved our belongings over to the new room. Without hesitation we pulled down the bedcovers and discovered the bottom sheet had numerous holes in it. We didn't even bother to get close enough to inspect for dirt, eggs, hair, etc. (It appeared to us that they must have had a 'special' floor for discount website bookings). We called the front desk again and told them of the new problem. After a nice 10 - 15 minute wait, someone came up and actually inspected the discepancy this time. After acknowledging that we were telling the truth, he offered us a third room, which we declined and found somewhere else to stay. At the front desk when we checked out, we asked for our money back given the circumstances...shame on us for not booking directly with the hotel because they couldn't address invoicing since we did not book the room directly with them.

Won't make that mistake again!

You cannot do better than the Sheraton Sacto if you are going to the Convention Center - downtown, the Capitol or want somewhere interesting to explore. Walking is easy - fwys close and easy to find everything.
Hotel was most accomodating - I asked a couple times on reservation matters & internet use but ultimately got good answers that made things work well for me.
They let me keep my Chihuahua for a hundred dollar deposit which they return if room not damaged - so no extra charge. Most places will not do this - I was delighted.
VERY comfortable and serviceable room - nice restaurant and active lobby/lounge for those who might be interested in it. Saw a show at Sacto Community Theater - walked to it easily and to restaurants, etc. and to Capitol and the Park. Beautiful, and many renovated buildings in the area. VERY FAIR price (if you ask for one!!) esp. since you don't have to drive out of your way from further out, free internet svc. and the free pet stay. Subway Sandwiches across street, convenient if you don't want to eat at the Restaurant - also close to Magnolia Grill block away w/breakfast and later meals as well - VERY REASONABLE and excellent service.
I was pleased at the locale and how safe I felt travelling alone here nonetheless, they did meet and exceed my expectations, and several front desk personnel including manager VERY kind and informative. Well maintained and cared-for property, clean and spacious in rooms and around lobby area.
Enjoy!

Had a feeling was not going to be impressed when I checked in at 3:30pm. Agent at front desk went to the back to work on my room while other guests came up after me got their room keys and were off to thier rooms. I decided to self park the car when I came back the agent was still in the back so I asked the other agent at the front desk if there was a problem with my reservation. He replied "no, they are just finishing getting your room ready". (hmmmm my room huh, they had one just for me?) So I finally get the keys to my room. The agent doesnt apologize for the wait but does ask me if I'm self parking so I say yes and she tells me "here is a parking voucher that will save you money" the voucher says $18bucks and since I had already parked and read the sign that said 18 dollar day max at the public parking garage, I asked how it saved me money, She hummed and hawwed. Turns out they just want to sell it to you and charge it on the room. Must get a piece of the action from the parking garage, no savings. Just didn't appreciate the double talk. Got to the room, one of the magnetic room keys didnt work. Went back down to same agent and got anogther key swiped and a lecture on placing the key next to my cell-phone (the key never left the room number sleeve). The replacement key didnt work. Went back down got two more keys which never worked and gave up.

Next day, at checkout time, the guy with the clipboard was at our room door at 12:02, no kidding. Asking if we were chekcing out, which we were in the process of packing up. He let us know we had to be out by 12:30 as he had this room sold. Of course we had to call the bell hop oursleves. In review, Had to wait to get the room when we checked in and got hurried out of it. FYI, in case you are not traveling now or are reading this when the economy is out of the depression, the hotel is not very full, none are.

WE GOT THE PRICELINE ROOM and THE PRICELINE TREATMENT!!!!!!

The hotel is very nice, with fairly large rooms that are clean and well-decorated.

My first room was 902 and smelled terribly of cooking smoke - it was located directly above a restaurant vent that was belching smoke. When I complained, their first offer was to move me to 602 - three floors closer to the source of the smoke. Finally, they found me a room on a much higher floor that did not smell so bad.

My room had a king bed, side tables, desk, comfortable chair with footstool, a window seat, closet, large bathroom with tub shower. Very large flat screen TV. Window had views of Convention Center and downtown Sacramento.

Restaurants onsite and a nice lobby bar. Starbucks across the street at Convention Center, many other restaurants and State Capitol within walking distance.

My car was broken into at the Sheraton Parking Garage (self-park), but a kind security guard waited by my car for 7 hours til I turned up to make sure nothing else was stolen. I was impressed by that.

My wife and I lived in Sacramento for years. We watched this hotel being built and stayed there two years ago while visiting the kids at Christmas. This Christmas, we started out at another hotel but moved to the Sheraton Grand after the Larkspur Landing (see my review) didn't work out.

Notably, the rates at the Sheraton were quite competitive. Although the room at the Sheraton was more typical of a hotel room than the one-bedroom suite at the other place, we instantly knew we'd made the right choice in changing hotels. Our room had a Sweet Sleeper king bed, a sitting area, a flat screen TV, and high-end bath amenities. It also had Internet access for a fee, but it was Christmas, so I left the laptop at home.

While we didn't eat at the restaurant, we did enjoy nibbles and wine at the lobby bar. Our bartender was great; very friendly and quite personable. The snacks were also good: hot, fresh, and tasty.

The hotel is convenient to the Convention Center, Downtown Plaza, a McCormick's and Schmicks just two blocks away, a funky shopping district (with several good restaurants) on J Street, and is not far from several freeways.

Last time, we used the valet parking, which struck me as a little expensive for Sacramento. This time, we self-parked -- in the same convenient garage across the street that the valets use. It saved us enough for a couple of glasses of wine each night, so we were pleased.

We will definitely stay there again!
