The family and I just returned from a weekend stay in Sacramento at the Grand Sheraton. The hotel is in a great location if you want or need to stay near the capitol or the convention center. We were here on weekend get-away after a few days in Lake Tahoe. The hotel is very quiet on the weekends so I knew our 3 year old wouldn't be bothering any business people. In fact, downtown is very quiet on weekends, almost too quiet. There is not much to do unless you drive or take a taxi to Old Sacramento. On to the review.
The Valet service was polite and efficient even with the small area in which they are forced to do their job. There is only room for 5-6 cars on a very busy street.
The front desk was very friendly and were a pleasure to deal with. I forgot to ask for my Sacramento Gold card (a local attraction and dining discount card) and went back later to get one and received very good service then as well.
We ate lunch and dinner at Morgans and received great food and mediocre service. The chef was even nice enough to give my daughter a chef's hat after noticing her watching her. A very nice touch I thought. The restaurant was very slow since it was a weekend so it didn't take long for us to get our food.
We had dinner the last night in the lobby near the PMB bar. The lobby is an old public market and is very open and comfortable with tables, chairs and couches everywhere. The waitress working the lobby, Rebecca, was a real joy. Hopefully the manager reads these reviews and gives her a thank you. She treated our daughter and us as well like royalty. Great service is hard to find these days and she was a natural.
The rooms are just average size with nice ammenities and kept very clean. There is a window seat which our daughter loved and a nice flat screen tv. It's not the best room I've ever had but the A/C worked well and it sufficed just fine.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, I just wish there was a little more to do on the weekends for smaller travelers. If it wasn't for the small pool, the Sheraton would win hands down compared to the nearby Hyatt.
