I had a very enjoyable stay at the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento. It's a beautiful hotel with a lovely lobby and friendly staff. The lobby/bar area is warm and welcoming with comphy chairs and free internet access. The bar has a large selection of drinks and was very busy in the evening.
Check-in took just moments, but in case there is a line, there is a large flat screen TV on CNN just above the reception desk. Nice touch.
I booked a club level room, which was on the 25th floor. I requested a quiet location, which was honored as I was all the way down at the end of the hall. The room was, sparkling clean and very large, with a huge desk, flat screen TV, king bed and a delightful window seat with a great view of the city. The bathroom was also large with great smelling Bliss products. In addition to washcloths and towels (only three bath towels??), there was also a nylon puff scrubby thing. That was a nice touch as I use one at home and miss it when I travel. Oh..and other's have complained about the towel quality. I found them to be just fine, a little scratchy but nothing horrible.
The only thing I would do differently next time, would be to skip the Club access. The Club room is only open between 7am-9am and 5pm-8pm. Breakfast consisted of a bland assortment of high fat pastry, whole and sliced unripe fruit, small cereal boxes, juice, water and coffee. Evening snacks were fried cheese, fried spinach pies, veggies and dip, a cheese plate that had no knife and I had to ask for crackers, water, sodas, tea and coffee. Alcohol was not included in the club price and my vodka tonic was $8.00! The club room also had a computer with internet access and a large TV. The one staff person in the evening had no idea how to make mixed drinks. There was no visible staff in the morning. The Club level is really not worth the increased price.
I walked from the hotel to Old Town and highly recommend the Train Museum. The walk goes through some sketchy areas by the court house, but it's completely safe in the day time. I got take-out sushi from Mikuni sushi bar, about a 3 block walk towards downtown. Mikuni is a very loud place, but they have the best quality sushi in the area and have an extensive take-out menu. I felt safe walking there and back after dark. There is also a P.F. Changs right next door to Mikuni.
I highly recommend this hotel and would certainly stay here again.
