May 23, 2007 | Trip type: Family

We stayed here for 3 nights over a weekend while visiting family. The main reason we chose this hotel was that we needed a separate bedroom with a door. We were traveling with our young son, and he got the living room sofabed. The one bedroom suite fit the bill. Other than that, though, there wasn't much to make this place stand out.

The continental breakfast was the most basic: cranberry and bran muffins, wheat and white bread and bagels, bananas, apples, yogurt, cereal boxes, hard-boiled eggs. The biggest problem was there was only one table to sit at. There were some couches with coffee tables, but those were a little inconvenient for eating. Hotel staff was hit or miss. The clerk who checked us in was very friendly. But the woman we asked for recommendations on family-friendly restaurants was completely unhelpful. BTW, the answer is, head north on Howe Ave. and you'll hit every chain restaurant (Applebee's, Chili's, Friday's, etc). She kept trying to send us to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.

The refrigerator in the room was very noisy. And the AC was difficult to adjust to get a comfortable temperature. On a positive note, the bed was very comfortable and there were a variety of pillow types. The first night we heard stomping from upstairs, but other than that, we didn't hear any outside noises.

All in all, though, it served its purpose of having the family in one hotel room with some privacy between the rooms.

What a great place; clean, comfortable, tons of extras. Great selection of breakfast food. The front desk staff (particularly Ryan) was incredibly helpful and courteous. I would definitely stay again.

Stayed here one night in March 2007. They take pride in their cleanliness and decor. It was a very inviting and warm place to stay.
I had the one bed one room suite. It was a little smaller than some of the other one room suites I've stayed in but it was so clean and well decorated that it makes up for the loss of space. It has a full fridge, small dishwashwer and a little stove top to cook on. It comes
with a few dishes. My friend had the one bedroom with a sofa bed and it was exceptionally bigger. If you need two beds you have to upgrade. I would definately stay here again. If you make in-house reservations ask for the CSUS (Sacramento University) discount. Our room was only $84.00 and my friends was $104.00. It includes breakfast, coffee any time, and fresh cookies in the evening.

  • Liked — The decor great
  • Disliked — My room was a little small for a suite.

We chose this hotel because it was near our daughter's apartment and Sac. State University, but we were a little apprehensive because we had never heard of the Larkspur and the price was $89.00 (AAA discount) a night over the weekend. We aren't the kind looking for a budget room, but our other option was the Double Tree, farther away and $200.00 a night.

We were pleasantly surprised by what we found. The hotel is attractive on the inside and outside. It is in a nicer part of town. It shares a parking lot with a sandwich shop, Mel's Diner (got my order wrong and the food wasn't very good) and I can't remember what other businesses were nearby. Our room wasn't overly decorated or large, but the double bed ( a Serta, I looked)was the most comfortable I've ever slept in in a hotel. The room was clean and quiet. Starbucks coffee is provided for the inroom coffee makers. There is a full size fridge, microwave, small dishwasher and a couple of burners. Dishes and cooking utensils are also provided. I didn't see a swimming pool, but I do think they have a hot tub. There is also a laundry room. Nobody ever knocked on our door either asking when we were going to check out.

This place was wonderful. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable, and the kitchen is very functional. The breakfast included hard-boiled eggs, string cheese, yogurt and fresh fruit along with the usual cereal, juice, toast, muffins, bagels, etc. Plus, they serve Starbucks coffee! I would highly recommend it to anyone needing a place to stay near Sacramento State University. It's only about 5 minutes away.
