“Good location, decent hotel.”

Vagabond Inn Executive Sacramento

Jun 25, 2008

We were in Sacramento to play at Raging Waters at the California Expo. This hotel is close by with many restaurants and businesses within walking distance. The hotel is dated and could use some fixing up especially on the exterior. The room was clean and tastefully decorated. It had a refrigerator and microwave. The staff was friendly and helpful. The outdoor pool and hot tub were nice, set in a nice courtyard. Parking is free and the continental breakfast was good. The breakfast room however, is way too small and cramped for all those quests. For the price, this hotel is a good value.

I was sent here on business. The room keys kept not working. I awoke on the final day with purple welts on my legs and feet. I knew I had been bit my something bit wasnt sure what. I found out two weeks later that I had brought bed bugs home from this hotel. I immediatley contacted the hotel and they told me they would do whatever they could to help. NOT. I am now over 3000.00 into this mess, the hotel has admited they found bugs in the room, and done NOTHING to help me. They turned it over to their insurance company and they have done NOTHING. Dont ever stay here.

“Nothing special, problems but not horrible”

The hotel is undergoing remodeling so things may change. I received a remoedled room and was happy with the upgrades they had made. Being a budget motel they did a halfway job though. The bed was ok, the counters were granite and the carpet was new. The TV was an old 19" tube that kept buzzing when it was on and the sink was so small it looked like it was from an airplane, which was wierd because the vanity was so huge! There was a fridge in the room and a nice lounge chair.
The walls are horribly thin as I was able to hear those on three sides all day and night. The internet was spotty but I kept changing it and was able to get it working. Parking is tight and limited. The area is okay, plenty of restaurants around and a mall.
There is a Best Western around the corner so I will check that out next time just to see.

I'm glad I didn't read the reviews on this property before I stayed there, or I probably wouldn't have selected it. But I didn't, so I did stay, and my wife and I are very happy we did. Stayed for 5 nights, business, then a little relaxation. Extended our stay because we were happy there. Yes, it is old, but well maintained. Grounds are nice, well kept, and relaxing. Nice pool. Rooms, at least mini-suite, was large enough.
Breakfast better than average. Staff was great, very friendly and helpful.
Location: lots of shopping and restaurants nearby.
I definitely recommend this one.

I have never had such an unpleasant experience to prompt me to write a review; however, my families' recent stay at this hotel was one that warranted me to prepare future guests for what may be endured at this place.
Being a Sacramento native who has since moved out of state and was on a short trip back for an extended weekend, I chose this particular hotel mainly due to location. I wanted to be near the Arden Mall for shopping and all of the newly modernized restaurants that have opened nearby in the last few years. Additionally, I knew it was only a 10 minute drive to Downtown, which was another bonus to staying there. We did not choose the cheapest rate when booking the hotel, but figured for what we paid per night, it was no where near a 4 star, so we were prepared for a slight problem here or there, but ended up getting more than we bargained for.
We booked the reservation directly from the hotels website, because in doing so, children stayed free with accompanying adults.
After flying all day, we were all tired and ready to get checked in and settled. Because we were traveling with children, we had to book two double beds, which usually isn't a huge deal for us as a family; however, the beds were so uncomfortable that my husband decided that he would get more sleep if he slept on the floor, which he did. The sheets were too small for both of the beds and kept coming off, making it for a very restless night for all of us. My husband tried again throughout the stay to sleep in the bed, but found the floor much more comfortable the entire time.
The next morning after checking in, we heard loud footsteps at 7am running on the roof top (we were staying on the 2nd floor). After about 30 minutes of this, my husband called the office and was told that work was being done on the roof and there was nothing that they could do to stop it. An hour later, we received a call telling us that they have controlled the situation. Needless to say, all of us were awake by then and decided to leave the hotel.
Upon arrival back to the hotel for a quick shower and changing, the cold water was turned off, which meant that using the restroom was off limits! We called the office to inquire about the situation and was informed that the water would be off for another 2-3 hours. As we were walking back to our car, we seen a notice posted on a door down the hall informing them of the water situation; however, no other notices were posted anywhere.
The hotel keys kept de-magnifying and we had to go to the office several times to get new keys and was told that the keys just do that in cold weather. It was awful being locked out repeatedly in 50 degrees weather waiting for my husband to run to the office to exchange the keys.
Lastly, throughout the stay, my husband would throw his extra change on the dresser each night when emptying his pockets. We came back from being out one day after the housekeeper cleaned the room and all the change was gone. We did not contact the office only because we thought that perhaps the housekeeper thought it was a tip; however, I found the situation a bit odd and even a bit comical with all the events that went on during our stay.
Overall, the stay was horrible and I will most likely not stay at another Vagabond Inn. I am still recovering from the back pain and lack of sleep that I got on this trip.
