I have travelled all over the world and this is by far the most disgustingly filthy property that I have ever seen. This was the first time in my life that I actually looked at a room and went back to the front desk to check right out. As others have mentioned, the photos are very misleading - the property is old and run down. The staff is rude, inconsiderate and unresponsive. We were fortunately able to get a room just outside of town in a clean and comfortable property.

  • Liked — They refunded me
  • Disliked — Everything - there was a strong smell of cat urine in the lobby that permeated the entire building

Our recent stay at The Sterling Hotel can best be described as pleasant. Our room was huge, the bed comfortable, the bathroom beautiful with very nice amenities, and everything sparkling clean. The breakfast was adequate, but the dinner at Chanterelle was absolutely wonderful! We try to avoid the hotel/motel chains (unless we're on a road trip), and this was a lovely spot to stay. We would definitely stay here again.

Great place to stay for a old time sacramento experience. We would recomend this classic hotel to all who enjoy something beyond the generic.

My husband and I reserved a room at the hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
We had to park 1 block away, and feed the meter until 6pm. The hotel looks a bit dirty and worn both inside and out.
When we arrived there were 2 clerks behind the counter. The older one was having a cocktail, and it was not yet 4 pm. The clerk that waited on us had no record of our reservation. She was not very personable or interested in the inconvience this put us through.
The room was not what we had expected. A little shabby looking. Linens were very worn. Cracks in the tile in the bathroom. Jacuzzi jets shot off into the tub when turned on. Very difficult to get in and out of tub. Shower repeatedly ran ice cold and scalding hot about once a minute.
Television reception was fuzzy, no good channels to choose from, just local channels.
There was a wedding reception being held downstairs, and it was VERY NOISY. We were not informed there would be a party held below us when we made the reservation. When I went down to ask the front desk how long the noise would continue, she acted annoyed with me. I asked about ordering room service. Apparently it is not available after 9 pm. It would have been nice to know this when we checked in.
The air conditioner worked great!.
The morning staff was much more pleasant and helpful.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Outstanding retreat for someone wanting pampering. Jacuzzis and polite staff, delicious food and comfortable location make for a wonderful experience. The only detractions are no internet and parking one block away... otherwise this is a must visit!
