My family and I went out for a nice Sunday dinner which turned out to be a long painstaking ordeal.
We arrived just as the restaurant opened and figured we would be in and out quickly. WRONG.
We ordered our app., drinks, and meal. The apps came out promptly but that's all that did.
I received my petite spinach salad and as I was mixing the leaves around to coat with the dressing I noticed these white round things on the bottom of one of the leaves. I showed the waiter who took it to the head chef who informed us that it was "critter eggs". I understand that things can go unnoticed but for the prices you have to pay at Scott's, I want every leaf inspected for bug larva!! The manager came over and offered to comp us dessert as well as let us leave with "a little something for next time."
45 minutes later our dinner came out. Actually just my younger daughter's came out. A full 5 minutes later the rest came out. Mine was cold. My husband's steak was way overcooked and he had a WHOLE potato in his MASHED potatoes. When we showed the waiter he just kinda looked at the potato and said, "hmm".
We received 2 comped desserts, one fabulous the other (brownie s'more) was dry and inedible.
In total we spent over 2 hours in this restaurant. It was a most unenjoyable experience. We sure could use some REAL food options in our neighborhood. Unfortunately Scott's on the River is NOT it.
Oh yeah, the little something we left with was $20 off our next visit. Of course we have to purchase 2 full price entrees first. Fat chance we will be back.

Note to Self:

Sue Scotts by the River for throwing me and my service animal out. Manager explained: NO DOGS ALLOWED.

Scotts is cruel to the DISABLED. Don't frequent this restaurant.

I had a retirement party at Scott's on the River Saturday, April 26, 2008 for 200 people and I have to say that the service I was worried about because of the service I had received at the restaurant. But to my surprise the service and the food was excellent. The wait staff couldn't have done more to please me or my guests, they were always on the move cleaning, serving or just making sure everyone had what they wanted. The food was wonderful nothing over-cooked not even the fish and the prime rib couldn't have been better.
I would recommend having an event at Scott's anytime.

We have always been a faithful customer of Scott's Seafood Grill & Bar at the Loehman Plaza in Sacramento. We love the quality of their food and excellent customer service. We heard about their new restaurant by the river which just opened. We went out there for lunch thinking that besides the view it would have the same quality food and service just like at their Loehman Plaza location. We were extremely disappointed. We understood that we did not make any reservations so we patiently waited for our seats for 45 minutes. We thought it would be worth it anyway. We wanted a light and fast lunch (since it was getting late after that wait) so we ordered 2 cups of clam chowder, calamari and one order of Caesar salad with grilled prawns. After the clam chowder and the calamari, the salad did not arrive until after 40 minutes. The salad looked wilted and the grilled prawns was cold. Also, by that time we already lost our appetite from waiting. We ordered another lemonade but that too took 20 minutes to arrive. We were so disappointed that we cancelled a future dinner reservations. Instead, we went back to Scotts at the Loehman Plaza location. As usual, their food was excellent and the service superb. We told them about our bad experience with the newly opened location by the river. They expressed apologies and said that we should try it again sometime in the future when their staff would be more experienced and properly trained.

Last Saturday I had dinner at the new Scott’s Seafood on the Sacramento River. I was with my husband and another couple. My husband and I arrived first and ordered a drink at the bar and then sat outside at some tables to wait for our friends to arrive.

There were about 20 tables outside; none were set with dinner/place settings. There will a few people outside standing around the fire pit – but there were no diners nor was anyone waiting to dine at one of the outside tables.

After a few minutes a waitress came up to us and told us we would have to move because the entire area was for dining only. I pointed out that no one would be eating outside since it is still too cold to eat outside at night, that there were still lots of tables available for dining on the off chance someone wanted to sit and eat outside, and that there wasn’t anyone waiting to eat outside and that the table weren’t even set for dining.

None the less, we had to move. I then explained that we had dinner reservations and were just waiting for our friends to arrive and when they do arrive we will happily leave the area. And of course if she suddenly became swamped with diners wanting to sit outside we would leave the area. It was agreed by all that the manager should be involved.

Our friends arrived as the manger came over to talk with us. He explained that in this particular case we could finish our drinks – but if he made an exception for us then he would have to make an exception for other. Again, there were 20 EMPTY UNSET tables and no parties waiting to sit. Not a pleasant beginning to our dinner.

But there is more. I belong to an exercise class of about 20-25 women. We are all talking about the new Scott’s and sharing our experiences and stories and some are worse than mine.

For example, one woman stopped in to have drinks with some friends and got into a conversation with the bartender about how nice it will be in the summer when people can ride their bikes on the levee and stop at Scott’s. She then asked if there would be bicycle racks for people to park their bikes. She was told in no uncertain terms that there would be no racks for bikes because they don’t want that type of person here!!!

Earlier in the month another woman from my class had lunch at the new Scott’s with some of her friends. After lunch they wanted to walk through the new hotel, which had also just opened to check it out. They were followed into the lobby by one of the parking valets and then met in the lobby by an employee who told them that there was a private party in the hotel and they could go no further! They just wanted to walk through the lobby.

I know that once in awhile a restaurant will make a mistake – but it is so unusual to come upon a restaurant in Sacramento where one is not wanted.

But take heart – there are lots and lots of great restaurants in Sacramento and in my experience all will let you sit at an empty unset table to enjoy a drink and it doesn’t matter to them if you arrive on a bike, car, or walk in – you are welcome.
