First to camp at Folsom lake -Peninsula, 7/4/08, but we had had a bad experienced with a park ranger, who was disrespectful, mean, abuse of authority, acted like a goon while giving a very mean and a threatening instructions to a group of family, who were sitting in a chair resting after having a good dinner. This ranger shows that he was uneducated person and does not belong to be a park ranger. He surreptitiously appeared behind us without prior notice and immediately gave a threatening words of instructions"wheew". The following day, I learned from other campers that the same ranger did the same thing to them by introducimg himself as a cop and harrasing them. I then contacted his immediate supervisor the following day and informed of the incident and promised to take care of everything against this individual (hope so!). I strictly recommend to all campers not to think of going to Folsom Lake Peninsula or face the same consequences.

We'll not come back again to this campground and will inform other friends and relatives to stop going to Folsom Lake-Peninsula.....

One Final Comment

This thread is typical of why I no longer camp in most public camp grounds. I found my little piece of Paradise at a private campground in California's Trinity Alps on a lovely trout stream & but a mile from one of California's most lovely lake.

The Owner a strapping 6'6" 240 # gentle giant brooks no nonsense from Anyone resulting in a peaceful experience! I spend up to 3 months a summer here with never a problem. I also store my camper there for $300 a year. So save a fortune on gas.

*Excellent* post, campingrampa. Thank you.

Of course, it's highly doubtful it will do any good here . . .

My husband and I call today's attitude the "it's not my fault" era. Seems to fit well here, eh?

Half-brit,

I'm glad you enjoyed it (long winded and all). If my posting causes at least one person (again only assuming their accusations are not completely factual) to cast aside their self-righteous indignation and take a good honest look at themselves, then its purpose is served. I believe, unfortunately, that the obtuse majority will completely miss the point and continue to blame their actions on everything from society, to global warming, to "Daddy didn't buy me a pony."

Sadly your "It's not my fault" era phrase fits well, too well. I'm sure there will be a "Syndrome" attached to it soon and the Pfizer Corporation will make billions on the pills. Until then there will be an endless supply of guests and audience members for Jerry Springer and Maury Povich.

For the record, I am in no way, shape or form claiming to be the perfect person. I've made some mistakes, paid the price and learned from them ("Learned being the key word). Fortunately I learned them at an early age, much younger than most I see today, and not just while camping, but every day. I fear for my grandchildren.

Climbing off my soap box and crawling into bed (again),

Best wishes to you all,

Richard

Phaminator,

We were threatened to be evicted or send to jail if we create loud conversation among us after 10pm...

The main concern about this ranger was the way he approach people..He should say in a nice and in a professional way to deal with people not acting like a goon with both hands on his side ways. We were asking ourselves if we commit any illegal activities that night and as i've mentioned before, we were just resting, relaxing that night. We really don't know of why this erring ranger contacted us. I've met several park rangers from various campgrounds and all of these are very professional, really nice, approachable and know how to deal with the public- except this guy. I am not begging you to believe me nor asking for sympathy....This is just we experienced from Folsom Lake Peninsula and first time we encountered like this from a park ranger.

Furthermore, I thank you all for giving such a wonderful comments/advises/critics and really appreciate it.

To TheKnee

"introducing himself as a cop" THEY ARE POLICE OFFICERS, just like your average CHP, Sheriff, etc...

It sounds to me that you have a problem with authority figures and being told what the laws of the park are. Heaven forbid a Ranger comes to your campsite and explain's the rules and regulations to you, even if you werent doing anything wrong, which I highly doubt. Your obviosly not telling the full story, JUST YOUR SIDE.

Being on a 4th of July weekend. The Ranger has a lot more to do on those busy holidays than to just come up and pick on an innocent family doing nothing wrong.

Put yourself in his shoes for once. Having to deal with a city "which it is on those days" all by yourself. If it happenend the way you say, he was just probabaly trying to prevent a problem before it started.

And most of the people writing? Because someone in their familiy had an issue and asked them to join in. Probably never been to the campground, may not even live in California. It's just like when a young person is arrested, mom goes and bails him out, says it was racial, a set up, a mistake, and her baby would never_______, you fill in the blank. Baby usually ends up in prison or dead eventually and never learns to be accountable for his behavior. Quit lying for your friends/family, it will hurt them in the long run if they don't learn how to be accountable. If they went to jail? Let 'em take the heat, maybe it will save their life. They have lied to you before and will again if you keep covering for their BS.
